“Killing him is not a sin”. Controversy over the shocking statement of a PD councilor against Fassino

“Killing him is not a sin”. Controversy over the shocking statement of a PD councilor against Fassino

"Killing him is not a sin": with these words, the municipal councilor of the Democratic Party of Cagliari, Davide Carta , commented on a post on Facebook in which he stigmatized the behavior of Piero Fassino in Parliament during the minute of silence for the victims of Gaza, in Palestine.

And the controversy immediately erupted. "A city councilor, and moreover from my own party, allows himself to use such serious and unspeakable words? – Fassino states – It is a cause for dismay, but above all for concern. And today I wonder in whose hands the Cagliari Democratic Party council group is".

Carta then explained that he had expressed "a comment with intentionally surreal and hyperbolic tones, taken from an old Milanese adage that an old boss of mine always used, to underline the absurdity of such a position". Then the apology: "I address my formal and sincere apologies to Piero Fassino for the comment I posted on social networks. The words I used, beyond the difference of views that I have with the PD deputy, are wrong and do not represent the spirit with which the Democratic Party, both at national and local level, engages and does politics".

"Hate speech should not belong to politics and especially not to our community. What the Pd municipal councilor of Cagliari, Davide Carta, said about Piero Fassino remains, despite the apologies. Words always say a lot about who chooses them. My solidarity with Piero", says Simona Malpezzi , Pd group leader in the extraordinary commission intolerance, racism, anti-Semitism, incitement to hatred and violence.

The secretary of the Sardinian Democratic Party Piero Comandini , president of the regional council, also intervened on the case. "On behalf of myself and the entire democratic community, I express full solidarity with my friend and comrade Piero Fassino for the inappropriate words of councilor Davide Carta. It was an unfortunate outburst, and I hope that Carta's apologies to Fassino can put an end to this affair".
